East Hampton Library’s Authors Night Raises $200,000 for Local Library
Literary luminaries and book lovers came out in force to support the East Hampton Library’s 8th Annual Authors Night benefit recently at the Gardiner Farm in East Hampton.
This year’s event raised more than $200,000 for the East Hampton Library. East Hampton Library Director Dennis Fabiszak said, “This year’s roster of participants featured more New York Times bestselling writers than ever before. More than half of our guest writers have been on the Times’ bestseller list this year.” Fabiszak estimates that more than 2,500 books were sold at the event, translating to a record-breaking $40,000 in book sales over last year’s $30,000 amount.
Directly following the authors’ book signing reception, 500 guests sat down to 18 dinner parties across the Hamptons, all featuring one or more of the guest authors.
Tom Twomey, Chairman of the Library’s Board of Managers said, “This year’s event exceeded our expectations. We’re proud to report that the East Hampton Library’s Authors Night has now become one of the most successful annual celebrations of books and authors in America. The funds raised at Authors Night will be used for essential programs and services at the Library throughout the next year.”
All Authors Night proceeds benefit The East Hampton Library, a private, not-for-profit organization providing outstanding library services to the East Hampton community.
Authors Night Founding Co-Chairs Alec Baldwin and Barbara Goldsmith, and Honorary Co-Chairs Ken Auletta, David Baldacci, Robert A. Caro, Dick Cavett, Lynn Sherr, and Dava Sobel were joined by more than 120 authors who signed their newest books for the enthusiastic throng of 1,500 event attendees.
Participating authors at the event included Pulitzer Prize winner Robert K. Massie, Ali Wentworth, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Martin Amis, Andrew Ross Sorkin, Robert Klein, Jeffrey Lyons and many more. #
