Abraham Auerbach—Front & Center
By Leonard Wacholder

There are special moments in ones life,

One of those was when I met my wife.

When at time I feel sad and forlorn,

I reminisce and recall
when my children were born.

Most fortunate was I to join the senior center,

For it was there that I met Mr. Auerbach,
the Hebrew class mentor.

With a bus and a long walk,
he travels to get to his class,

Individuals like Abraham
are a thing of the past.

As good wine approves with age,

So does Abraham,
he is truly a scholar and a sage.

He leads us in Yiddish and Hebrew songs
with pride,

And accompanies us with his Mandolin
held at his side.

We look forward to see what he will wear,

Always a white shirt, a tie,
and combed down hair.

"It is never too late to learn,"
he will frequently say,

Every dawn is the start of a brand new day.

You will always have a special place in my heart,

In all of your students' lives,
you play a very special part.#

Leonard Wacholder is a grateful student
of Mr. Auerbach.

Mr. Auerbach is 94 years old and is still teaching languages and music. He is an inspiration to teachers of all ages, everywhere.
