Logos Bookstore's Recommendations

by H. Harris Healy, III, President
1575 York Avenue (between 83rd and 84th St.) New York, NY 10028 (212) 517-7292.

If you want to read good books of all kinds, come to the Kill Your TV Reading Group (KYTV for short), which meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at Logos Bookstore.

We discussed The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman this April. If you want a suspenseful read, this is it. As the Germans overrun the Belgians and pour into France, the narrative moves faster and faster. The plot, the characters, and the action are all riveting. It is a page turner of a book.

For May, the book chosen is On the Road by Jack Kerouac. This is also a book of constant movement and action. Kerouac makes you feel you are driving across America and experiencing the heat and blues of jazz, and the highs and lows of the characters' lives.

Both these books make reading memorable. Interested in this kind of activity? Come try the KYTV. In June we will discuss High Fidelity by Nicholas Hornby, June 7 at 7 p.m. The book is available at Logos.

For people with young children, Logos has a story time every Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

On May 23rd and June 1st in the evening at 7 p.m. there will be some drama: Vamps, Virgins, Vixens and Visionaries. Come find out what it is about. Happy Spring.

The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman $14.00 Ballentine Books

On the Road by Jack Kerouac $12.95 Penguin
